Basic element for an Amateur Radio Operator.(Basic knowledge for SWLs in Lahad Datu)

Dear SWLS and HAM operator in Lahad Datu. Today we will discuss little about basic element in Amateur Radio typically radio shack.

1) Transceiver, a combination of Transmitter & Receiver is the main element in Amateur Radio. Transceiver can be in any form made up of single band up to multi band. Now modern transceivers can be multi band and multi mode and with small size available too. Brand such as ICOM, Yaesu and Kenwood is widely use along with other brand.

2) Feed line, can be in any type with the most common COAXIAL type found in Amateur Radio Shack connected from radios to the antennas is the RG8, Rg213 and RG58. These common feed line mostly manufactured impedance of near to 50 ohm which matched to most modern transceiver's output impedance without the need of Impedance Trans match Unit or Antennae Tuning Unit(ATU).

3) Antenna, a type of transducer cut to the resonance of the transmitted frequency from a transceiver to fully absorb 100% power transferred, then radiate it into the air in form of Electrical and Magnetic field.

4) Finally the Power supply Unit(PSU). Power supply is the heart of a radio station. A good PSU need to be able to deliver sufficient power to all equipment connected specially the Transceiver. Typically Diamond's PSU.

ADD on element:

1) Antennae Tuning Unit(ATU): This ATU function is to match the antenna to various frequency that the ATU able to tune. An antenna is suppose to resonant 1 frequency but with the help of ATU, an antenna can transmit out of the resonant frequency but with losses induce in ATU and unresonant antenna element. Basically ATU is to tune out SWR that results from non pure resistive load(antenna) connected to a transmitter.

2) RF Power amplifier: This unit basically to amplify the RF power from a transmitter to another higher level of power. Example 1.5Kw.

In Malaysia RF power limit is 400watt.

More still coming up stay tune.
